GpalWin & GpalPlot GpalWin, a program for pollen data management including displaying, plotting, pollen concentration and correlation (Claude Goeury). GpalWin is a program more particulary devoted to the acquisition management and displaying of pollen analytical data. It has been developped for micro-computer PC compatible on Microsoft Windows 95, 98 and NT4 operating systems. Its starting up did not require any particular knowledge except the usual Windows commands ; many dialog boxes and help windows make its using very easy.; its capacity is only limited by the free memory of equipement you are using. |

Data acquisition: The data can be directly retrieved from your counting sheets or imported from many popular softwares like Excel, dBase or Lotus. Inversely, GpalWin data files will be exported in other formats, principaly Excel, and dBase to process with the statistical programs of 3Pbase (J. Guiot and C. Goeury). Data files are saved in gpal format (Text format readable by any text editors). Plotting of the diagrams In addition of GpalWin program, GpalPlot is a graphical module to plot pollen diagrams on all the line-printers or HPGL compatible plotter machine. All the parameters of the diagram (sizes, choice of drawed taxa or samples, smoothing, curves or histograms, lettering size and location) will be seted directly on a previous screen simulation. After that, the diagram will be directly plotted to the line printer or plotter machine, but it will be better to save HPGL file on disk and to import it in CorelDraw program. CorelDraw allows to you to set easely and perfectly your diagram (Letterings, frames, colors) and to use all the laser or inkjet printers. Absolute pollen counting Two calculations ways are available : volumetric method;The requisite data (Weight of sample, volume of the analysed residue, number of counted spores) will be added at the data file like a taxa. The results of the calculation are displayed directly on the screen and the table will be edited and printed with Excel. A diagram will be easly plotted with GpalPlot program jointly the relative frequencies. Taxanomic diversity and variance. This module alows to you to analyse the variation of the taxonomic diversity along the sequence and the renewing of taxa, spectra by spectra. A curve of variance will be displayed to visualize the main zones of the pollen sequence. Isotopic data, correlation of two sequencies. Isotopics data (14C) will be added into the data file. From this data, it's possible to fix the age of each sample of the sequence ; for that, you can use two methods : a manual process named " Interpol " to adjust yourself the age curve ; a statistical process named " Best fit " to calculate the right slope of this age curve. After that, it's possible to develope your sequence according the ages instead of the depths. With the " Interdatation " module, it's possible to correlate a not dated sequence with a similar dated sequence. GpalWin est un logiciel développé sous Windows (Microsoft) et prévu pour fonctionner exclusivement dans un environnement 32 bits (Windows 95 ou NT). Il s’agit d’une nouvelle version améliorée de Gpal3 sous Ms-Dos, plus puissante et dont l’ergonomie la met à la portée de tout utilisateur moyen. Sa sécurité d’utilisation a été renforcée grâce a une sauvegarde automatique du fichier durant la saisie et une récupération possible des données en cas de fausses manoeuvres. Outre la saisie manuelle des données, il permet une importation aisée de celles-ci, la compatibilité avec Microsoft Excel assurant la relecture de pratiquement tous les formats de fichiers existants. (La compatibilité est assurée avec les fichiers Gapl3). Il n’existe plus de limites quant aux nombres d’échantillons et taxons. La liste taxonomique de référence de l’European Pollen Database est mise à la disposition des utilisateurs et ceux-ci pourront ainsi constituer leurs propres listes conformes aux normes actuellement en vigueur. Outre les comptages, GpalWin offre la possibilité de rentrer les données relatives à chaque site de prélèvement (Situation géographique, auteurs, moyens de carottage, datations absolues). La réalisation de comptages absolus a été grandement améliorée (Méthodes volumétrique ou avec marqueurs) et il est possible d’obtenir une représentation simultanée des résultats de ces comptages et des fréquences relatives. Il est possible de développer les diagrammes selon une échelle chronologique, soit en utilisant les datations absolues du site étudié, soit en calant la séquence sur une séquence de référence (par interdatation). L’utilisation du format vectoriel HPGL pour le codage du diagramme permet l’utilisation de toutes imprimantes lasers ou à jet d’encre couleurs ainsi que toutes tables traçantes. De plus, les fichiers produits sont importables par la plupart des logiciels de DAO du marché tel que CorelDraw (Corel Corporation) donnant ainsi accès aux possibilités de ceux-ci quant à la présentation, a leur sauvegarde en divers formats graphiques et à leur integration dans des rapports ou publications.
